A 1996 Day-Date in the size the reference was born to wear, glossy white dial with yellow gold Roman numerals. Full set. The 36mm case sits quietly, which is exactly the point; this is the President at its most restrained.

How it found me
If my father could have afforded any watch, this is what he would have bought. We disagreed on most things; he told me I dreamed too big, and I thought he didn't dream big enough. He passed unexpectedly at 51, shortly after acquiring his first Rolex, a used two-tone Datejust. A year later his sister passed unexpectedly at the same age. With the same blood running through me, it felt like my life was designated for the same fate and I was on the back nine. I left the office early on the Friday afternoon of Easter and went to the pawnshops of downtown Raleigh in pursuit of a gold presidential Rolex. The owner of the store was a member at my country club and kindly gave me the value of a lifetime.
